Family

We’re more than a company; we’re a family

Sure, we’re family-owned, but when we mention “family,” we’re not talking about the Lilands, who founded the company.

Our story is special because of the people who work for us – from the production floor to the front office. Many have been with us for decades and almost all hail from the local community.

You can read our management team bios, but on this page, we’d like to introduce you to some of our craftsmen.

As a supporter of the Interfaith Refugee Ministry, Inc. located here in New Bern, North Carolina, we’re on the front line of helping people get a new start in the United States – people who have undergone religious or political persecution in places such as Burma or the Middle East. They come work for us here at UI.

Hesitant, a little apprehensive, and with limited English language skills, they learn the art of urethane. Slowly, over the weeks and months, they begin to relax and smiles break out. And then one day, laughter, joy, connection. They’re now part of the UI family.

What it really comes down to is this: in this age when trust between employer and employee, and between companies and communities, is quickly disappearing, it’s still alive and well in New Bern, North Carolina.

And that, in a nutshell, is what makes us different.
